Keep selling on Shopify. Hippo installs on your storefront and checkout, counts the purchases your ads bring in and cleans them before it sends Google Ads and Meta (Facebook) a conversion. We turn off the store's own ad tracking during setup, and you keep the record of which campaigns sell, whoever runs your ads.
No annual contracts.
Transparent pricing.
We set it up for you.
Under Shopify's acceptable use policy, uploading protected health information subject to HIPAA isn't supported on the platform, and Shopify publishes no BAA (as of 10/13/26).
Meta integration
At its two higher data-sharing levels, the app can send your purchases to Meta from Shopify's servers, with the customer's name, location, email address and phone number. Meta's terms(opens in a new tab) bar data that includes or is based on health information.
Health information
Your store's pixels load on your checkout and thank-you page(opens in a new tab), and by default the purchase those pixels receive lists each item by its product title. Meta's list of prohibited information includes over-the-counter products and supplements for specific medical conditions.
Enhanced conversions
With Google Ads linked and enhanced conversions turned on, the app sends Google hashed first-party conversion data from your site, and conversions related to health can't be used for measurement in enhanced conversions(opens in a new tab).

Sent
Hippo sends Google Ads and Meta a conversion under a neutral name for the purchases you count, and your Hippo record ties each one to the campaign behind it. On your store, Hippo waits for consent where it is required.
Excluded
Names, emails, phone numbers, dates of birth and IP addresses, plus product names, SKUs, the items in the cart and URL paths.
Held
An event Hippo doesn't recognize stays in Hippo, so a new checkout step can't start reaching Google Ads or Meta through Hippo on its own.
Kept
Hippo stores what it records in its own storage under the BAA it signs with every customer, with a log of what Hippo sent Google Ads and Meta and what it removed first.
Orders keep coming in, and nobody can tell which campaign sold them.
I'm also running a health and wellness brand. We are not tagged yet, but I noticed that conversions have really declined.
A few of our clients' accounts got the health and wellness flag, and all pixel and conversion API data was blocked for bottom of funnel.
Shopify store, single product. Standard Purchase, ATC and InitiateCheckout blocked browser-side.
Each workaround costs another month, and the store ends up where it started.
Tried things everyone suggests to deal with this, but nothing worked.
Custom events don't do the trick, and you're running the chance of getting your account disabled.
Settled, no amount disclosed
LifeMD, a telehealth company, settled claims that pixels on its LifeMD and RexMD websites, and Meta's Conversions API on its servers(opens in a new tab), disclosed visitors' private information to Meta, Google and TikTok. The settlement covers members and people who ordered or purchased products from LifeMD or RexMD, and the court granted final approval(opens in a new tab) in September 2025.
Proposed
Life Line Screening agreed to make up to $1.4 million available to settle claims that tracking on its website sent Meta, Google and others which screening tests visitors selected and ordered. The settlement covers people who booked screenings or bought test kits on its website, and the claims are allegations.
Your store's apps can already send purchases to Meta and Google. Hippo sends a cleaned conversion in the apps' place and ties each purchase it receives to its campaign, in a record you own, whatever Google Ads and Meta do with the conversion.
An independent record of results in an account you own. If you change agencies, it stays with you.
Calls that start from an ad are counted as conversions alongside forms and bookings.

During setup we turn off the Facebook & Instagram app's ad tracking, remove the Google & YouTube app's conversion tracking(opens in a new tab) and take the other ad pixels off your store, so the store's apps and Hippo do not both report the same purchase. Hippo puts no ad pixel and no Google tag on your pages. At its two higher data-sharing levels, the Facebook & Instagram app can send your purchases to Meta between Shopify's and Facebook's servers with the customer's . Sending a purchase from a server changes only the route; the conversion still carries whatever it carried.

Checkout
We install Hippo on your Shopify storefront and checkout, with whoever runs your store and your ad accounts. Hippo runs on a subdomain of your own domain, and whoever controls the domain adds a DNS record for it.
We turn off the Facebook & Instagram app's ad tracking, remove conversion tracking from the Google & YouTube app and take the other ad pixels off your store, so the store's apps and Hippo do not both report the same purchase.
You choose which store events count, such as a completed checkout. When someone who clicked your ad checks out, Hippo ties the purchase to the campaign that brought them, in a record you own.
Before the purchase leaves Hippo, the products in the order are left out, and Hippo gives the conversion a name that implies no condition, treatment or service.
Hippo sends it from its server, to Meta through the Conversions API, and logs what it sent. Whoever runs your ads sees the purchase conversions arrive in Google Ads and in Meta's Events Manager.
The actual checkout still happens on the restricted domain.
Pending
Website users allege that the Meta Pixel on Visionworks' site captured their searches, the products they clicked and the products they added to their shopping cart, including prescription eye products. The case is on hold(opens in a new tab) until an appeals court rules in a similar case against another optical chain.
Each of the three involves people who ordered, booked or shopped on the company's own website.

Server-side conversion tracking under a BAA, at a price a practice can actually pay.
Hippo sends them a conversion under a neutral name for the purchases you choose to count, and ties each one to the campaign that brought the customer, in a record you own. Before a purchase leaves Hippo as a conversion, Hippo removes names, emails, phone numbers, dates of birth and IP addresses. Your checkout gives pixels each item's title, which defaults to the product's title(opens in a new tab). Product names, SKUs, the items in the cart and URL paths are not part of the conversion Hippo sends.
Yes. We install Hippo on your Shopify storefront and checkout, thank-you page included, and you choose which store events count, such as a completed checkout. When someone who clicked your ad checks out, Hippo counts the purchase and ties it to the campaign that brought them. Hippo then sends Google Ads and Meta a conversion.
We do, with whoever administers your store and your ad accounts. That is often your Shopify developer or your agency, since setup needs access to the store's apps, its customer events and its theme. Whoever controls your domain adds a DNS record for your Hippo subdomain. Your agency keeps running the campaigns and sees the purchase conversions arrive in Google Ads and in Meta's Events Manager, and the record of purchases by campaign stays in your Hippo account if the agency changes.
Not for conversions related to health, which can't be used for measurement in enhanced conversions. Once Google Ads is linked, the Google & YouTube app sets purchase, add to cart and checkout started(opens in a new tab) as your account's default conversion actions, and once you turn on its enhanced conversions, they send hashed first-party conversion data(opens in a new tab) from your site to Google. During setup we keep enhanced conversions off for Hippo's conversion actions, and the app's own conversion tracking comes off.
No. Hippo signs a BAA with every customer, and it covers Hippo. Under HIPAA, a covered entity may share protected health information with a business associate only with that business associate's own assurance(opens in a new tab). Shopify publishes no BAA, Meta Ads offers no BAA, and Google offers BAAs for Workspace, Cloud and Local Services Ads(opens in a new tab) and none for Analytics or for the Google Ads campaigns advertisers run on search, display and YouTube. Google Ads and Meta are outside your BAA with Hippo, and Hippo controls only what it sends them.
Meta's terms bar data that includes or is based on health information, whatever your HIPAA status, and Meta's list of prohibited information(opens in a new tab) includes over-the-counter products and supplements for specific medical conditions. In Google's rules for measuring conversions, purchases of medical services, prescription drugs or medical devices(opens in a new tab) count as health or medical information, a sensitive category. Whether HIPAA covers your store is a question for your attorney. Either way, product names stay out of the conversions Hippo sends.
Shopify Network Intelligence lets Shopify use your store's customer data, with other merchants' data, for its own services, advertising among them. You can turn it off(opens in a new tab) in your store's settings, which also removes the Shopify features built on it(opens in a new tab), so we go through it with you on the walkthrough.
No. Hippo cannot lift a category Meta assigns or restore an event Meta blocks. For some data source categories, Meta can restrict the sharing of specific mid and lower funnel events(opens in a new tab), and under a restriction it blocks custom events(opens in a new tab) until you review and confirm them. You can see in Events Manager(opens in a new tab) whether Meta assigned a category to your data source and ask Meta to review it; Hippo has no part in that review. Hippo still records your store's purchases by campaign, whatever Meta blocks.
A new name does not take an event outside the rule. Under Meta's terms, the names of events and conversions must not reflect, imply or be based on(opens in a new tab) health information, and what Meta accepts is Meta's decision. Hippo never renames or recasts an event to get past a Meta restriction. It gives each conversion it sends a name that implies no condition, treatment or service.
Yes, if you want to know how these laws apply to your business. This page describes Shopify's terms, laws and court cases for general information and is not legal advice. Hippo handles the tracking; an attorney can advise you on your obligations. Hippolytics is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Shopify.
